Welcome to The Moderate Zone

According to statistics, approximately 80% of Americans fall into a category which I have termed, "The Moderate Zone," reflecting their centrist, moderate views. Most of us love our country, believe in the writings and deeds of our forefathers and mothers, in fiscal conservatism and accountability, the right to live and let live and make choices for ourselves. Most people are good, and believe others to be so. Americans have historically held dear that same sense of fair play and integrity, self determination, and individualism that we saw in our earliest settlers. These attributes have become the cornerstone of our culture, as it welcomed people of all creeds, colors and cultures from all parts of the world to participate in our system of democracy. It has often been said the people are NOT sneaking OUT of this country; they are trying to sneak IN! While that may not be what the INS intended, it is a clear indication of the desire of a significant amount of people to be here.

During the summer and fall of 2008, in Washington, at Conventions in Denver and St. Paul and throughout small towns in America, I was interviewed by numerous foreign journalists and I always asked them why there were so interested in what Americans were doing in this campaign cycle--and, without exception, they all told me that our system of democracy has been a cornerstone and blueprint for the democracies of the world. They watch everything that happens here not only because of the potential effect of events here upon the world at large, but because we and our Constitution, Bill of Rights and Declaration of Independence have somehow, by virtue of the acts of our forefathers and mothers, become a beacon of example to the world. I was moved by that; these things had always meant a great deal to me and most Americans, but I was unaware until this summer, how truly much they meant to others.

And so, I welcome you to The Moderate Zone, where a large percentage of Americans dwell and work in the ideals of Colonial America. I hope you'll feel free to join in discussions and comments as we move forward in our Movement to reform and restore America to its proud and caring principles.
